CORDIAL INVITATION

The next public event following the Open Mosque’s successful Freedom Day celebrations when the distinguished Professor JairamReddy delivered an extraordinary keynote address commemorating 24 years of liberty from apartheid tyranny, the Open Mosque is delighted to invite you and your family to attend its biannual interfaith barbecue that welcomes all Muslims as well as those of other faiths and none.

Once again, this progressive Islamic House of Worship invites the followers and adherents of every religion (and none) to break bread together, to come together in a spirit of love and tolerance. This trailblazing initiative will take place on Sunday, 13 May 2018 from 1pm to 5pm in a lovely tranquil setting in the southern suburbs.

This complimentary function is designed to bring people of different backgrounds and all beliefs together as fellow citizens of Cape Town to enjoy delicious food, convivial music and scintillating company in a relaxing and friendly environment. Even though this is an Islamic initiative, no proselytizing or conversion by any faith will be permitted. It is primarily a unique bonding and cordial social networking opportunity so that everyone, irrespective of their philosophy and perspectives in the Mother City can get to know each other and to establish potential links and fruitful relationships with each other. So, everyone is most welcome!

This exceptional family event offers a diverse selection of delicious dishes as well as non-alcoholic beverages, providing something tasty for everyone, including our vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian guests. And in recognition of our Jewish, Muslim and Hindu friends, no pork or beef will be served. Apart from the delectable cuisine and stimulating conversations, there will also be short presentations by Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Baha’i, African traditionalist, Khoisan, Atheist, Humanist and Secularist representatives to celebrate the amazing cultural diversity as well as the religious vibrancy of cosmopolitan South African society.

Aside from delicious food and stimulating company, there will also be live musical performances as well as appropriate entertainment and activities for children! Prayer facilities will also be available for Muslims to perform the afternoon (asr) prayers.

Come join us then for a delightful day of food and fun, of friendship and faith in a convivial location as we seek to renew old contacts and to make new acquaintances. In doing so, we build bridges of friendship by promoting mutual tolerance, championing authentic ideological pluralism and advancing genuine interfaith dialogue in these troubled times of murderous conflict and religious hostility in so many parts of the world.

To plan the logistics for this exceptional get-together, can you kindly let me know as soon as possible by email: secretary@theopenmosque.org.za whether you will be attending and how many people will be accompanying you. There is only limited capacity, so all reservations will be confirmed on a first come, first serve basis.

KINDLY NOTE, ONLY WHEN YOU RSVP BY EMAIL WILL THE VENUE DETAILS BE FORWARDED.

Please feel free to notify friends and colleagues who may also be interested in attending this ground-breaking multifaith BBQ.  We look forward to meeting you at the Open Mosque’s bi-annual interfaith gathering at 1pm on Sunday, 13th May, 2018! Inshallah / Deo Valente / God-willing
